As part of Beirut AI’s commitment to making the tools and knowledge needed to apply Artificial Intelligence accessible to everyone, Beirut AI is proud to partner with DataCamp. DataCamp firmly believes that providing someone with an education is a guaranteed way to benefit them.
Through the collaboration, Beirut AI offers its members professional skills development via the Community Aid Program (CAP). This program supports the community and AI enthusiasts by introducing them to this high-demand field and expanding their knowledge in AI with free year-long access to the DataCamp platform.
This initiative highlights the intersection of sustainability and AI, particularly in our digitally evolving world where AI plays a crucial role in all aspects of life.

My journey with the program has been enriching. Through various courses on DataCamp, I have acquired valuable skills in data analysis, programming, and machine learning.
From the Python courses that I've completed, I enhanced my data extraction and data cleaning skills and was also able to undertake several web scraping projects. I was able to gather and process large amounts of data efficiently, which was a key component in several of my academic and personal projects. Moreover, the SQL courses changed my understanding of database management. Before taking these courses, I believed SQL was limited to basic queries and operations. However, after completing the courses, I was able to implement advanced SQL queries in my senior year web project, which greatly enhanced its functionality and performance. This newfound knowledge enabled me to handle complex data sets and execute intricate queries, elevating the quality of my work.

Additionally, I had previously worked on a machine learning project to develop a URL phishing detection system. This project was particularly challenging due to the issue of over fitting in my model. However, after finishing the data cleaning courses on DataCamp, I was equipped with the techniques needed to address and fix this problem. The insights I gained from these courses were invaluable in refining my model to improve its accuracy and reliability. This project not only honed my technical skills but also demonstrated the practical applications of machine learning in enhancing cybersecurity.

It’s been two years since I joined BeirutAI and started taking courses on DataCamp and there’s no better decision I’ve made over the past years. When the era of machine learning emerged, I realized I cannot sit there hearing about artificial intelligence applications day in and day out without demystifying this field. I cannot sit there with question marks every time the terms “AI” or “machine learning” pop up, and those were ample. I realized I shall set foot into the world of machine learning and discover its realms real quick. I am a biomedical researcher, and the wave of machine learning has not left any area of the biomedical field untouched, so I decided to start surfing on it. The Community Aid Program by BeirutAI has been an incredible opportunity for me.
My journey on DataCamp has been nothing short of transformative. I believe this has been one of my greatest accomplishments over the past years; one that I am very proud of. One of the powers of DataCamp, which I have not found elsewhere so far, is the ability to keep you engaged in a self-learning journey. Acquiring machine learning knowledge and coding skill has been my side hassle. In two years, I became coding and machine learning savvy even with zero prior experience in both. I have developed the ability to converse with a machine learning expert and make sense of the most technical terms in a conversation or in an academic article.
Learning coding and machine learning on DataCamp allowed me to make a huge leap in my career as a biomedical researcher. I was able to take on two machine learning-based projects in biomedical sciences and present the work in two major international conferences in the US. For these projects, I have won three awards so far: two international travel grants and a best poster presentation.
What I absolutely love about DataCamp courses are their relevance to real world problems; at most times, you learn more than coding and machine learning as you become aware of actual applications of data science and machine learning models. DataCamp gives you a taste of real-world scenarios in business, economics, marketing, trading, food science, biomedical research, and more! As a researcher, an instrumental skill is performing statistical analysis. DataCamp courses allowed me to dig deeper into the inner workings of various statistical methods. Thanks to BeirutAI Community Aid Program and DataCamp courses, not only did I acquire new, valuable skills but I also honed pre-existing ones! I can now safely say that I have joined the “machine learning revolution”!
